The experience
The day starts at your hotel and moves straight to the Giza plateau, where you'll stand in front of the three great pyramids built over 60 years by Pharaoh Khufu, his son Khafre, and grandson Menkaure. The guide walks you through what each pyramid was, how it was built, and what it meant: Khufu's Great Pyramid towers 481 feet and holds 2.3 million stone blocks, each weighing 2.5 to 15 tons. From there, you ride a horse or camel across the plateau to see all nine pyramids at once from a single vantage point, a view most visitors miss from ground level.
After the ride, you visit the Great Sphinx (the limestone monument with a lion's body and a pharaoh's head that may have guarded Khafre's entire tomb complex), and stop for photographs. Then the tour moves to the Grand Egyptian Museum, a modern museum near the pyramids that holds over 50,000 ancient Egyptian artifacts, including treasures from Tutankhamun's tomb. A quick stop at the Egypt Papyrus Museum shows how the strongest paper in history was made. The guide is a professional Egyptologist who speaks English, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, French, German or Arabic, so the commentary stays clear and detailed throughout. You're back at your hotel by the end of the day.
The tour includes bottled water, all entry fees and taxes, an air-conditioned vehicle, and 24-hour follow-up support before and after. If you want professional photos of yourself at the pyramids, that's available as an add-on at checkout.
