The experience

Your guide meets you at your hotel at 8:00 AM and drives you in a private air-conditioned car to the Giza Plateau. You'll stand in front of the Great Pyramid of Cheops while your Egyptologist explains how it was built, then move through the complex to see all three pyramids and the Sphinx. The camel ride (if you book it) takes you across the desert for a view most visitors never get: the three pyramids lined up from a distance, with the Valley Temple of King Khafre nearby. Lunch is local Egyptian food, and a vegetarian option is available if you request it when you book.

The Grand Egyptian Museum is the second half of the day. You enter through the open-air courtyard where two colossal statues of Ramses II stand, then climb the Grand Staircase surrounded by monumental sculptures of pharaohs like Seti I and Hatshepsut. The 18 newly opened galleries hold over 8,000 artifacts (royal statues, everyday tools, ancient writings, personal belongings) displayed together for the first time. The Treasures of Tutankhamun, including his golden artifacts, are in one collection. Your guide walks you through the galleries and explains what you're looking at. You're not on your own.

The day ends at Khan El Khalili, the centuries-old bazaar where vendors sell jewelry, textiles, spices and souvenirs. Your guide takes you through it and then back to your hotel. The whole tour runs eight hours from start to finish.
