Hotel pickup starts the morning, and then it's straight to Giza, where the three main pyramids (Khufu, Khafre, Menkaure) rise in front of you without warning. Your Egyptologist guide walks you through the Valley Temple of Khafre, explains the mummification process that happened there, and positions you for a proper look at the Great Sphinx. The panoramic viewpoint gives you 30 minutes to photograph all six pyramids at once and, if you want, ride a camel across the plateau.

After Giza, the drive south takes you to Saqqara, where the Step Pyramid of Djoser sits as the oldest stone structure on earth: built in 2670 BC by the architect Imhotep.
