The Experience

The day starts with pickup from your Cairo or Giza hotel at 8am and heads straight to the Giza Pyramids: the Great Pyramid of Khufu, the Pyramid of Khafre, and the Pyramid of Menkaure, all built during the Fourth Dynasty. You stand at the edge of the Western Desert, about 13 km southwest of Cairo's city centre, and walk among the three largest pyramids built in ancient Egypt. The Great Sphinx of Giza, a limestone statue 73 metres long with the body of a lion and a human head, faces directly from west to east across the same plateau. The scale of the site hits differently when you're standing in front of it rather than reading about it.

From Giza, the route continues 27 km southwest to Saqqara, where the Step Pyramid rises in a series of six stone tiers. Built for King Zoser, it marks a turning point in pyramid construction: the bridge between the simple mastaba tombs and the smooth-sided pyramids that came later. After Saqqara, you move on to Memphis, which served as Egypt's capital from around 3100 BC. The city holds the colossal statue of Ramses II and the great Alabaster Sphinx, remnants of a civilization that ruled for millennia before Cairo existed.

The full route takes 7 to 8 hours from start to finish. You travel in an air-conditioned vehicle with a driver, and if you book the guide option, a live interpreter in your chosen language travels with you. Bottled water is provided throughout the day. At the end, you're transferred back to your hotel. The tour is wheelchair accessible, and infants can travel in a pram or stroller.
