The experience

Your guide meets you at your hotel at 9:00 a.m. and drives you straight to the Giza Pyramids. You'll stand in front of the three great pyramids (Cheops, Chephren and Mykerinus) the oldest of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World and the only one to survive largely intact. The Pyramid of Cheops, also called the Great Pyramid, was built as a tomb for Pharaoh Khofo over a 14 to 20-year period in 2560 BC. Your Egyptologist will walk you through the plateau and show you the spot where all three pyramids line up for photographs.

From there you continue to the Great Sphinx, which has the head of a pharaoh and a lion's body, built during the time of Chephren to guard his pyramid. You'll also visit the Valley Temple, which belonged to the Pyramids of Chephren and served as the place where the king was purified and mummified before burial. A camel ride through the desert is part of the tour, then you'll enjoy Egyptian street lunch with your guide before heading back.

If you book the all-inclusive option, a golf cart takes you to the Grand Museum. You'll walk the Grand Staircase (a massive structure full of monuments and statues), and spend time with the collection of Tutankhamon, including his golden mask and golden coffin. The museum visit is included only in the all-inclusive package. The car-and-guide option covers the pyramids, sphinx and lunch alone. An air-conditioned vehicle transports you throughout, and bottled water is provided.
