The experience

Your day begins at the Giza Plateau with the Great Pyramid of King Khufu, the largest of the three main pyramids and the only surviving Wonder of the Ancient Seven Wonders of the World. The Egyptologist guide walks you through the incredible engineering techniques used to build this structure more than 4,500 years ago, then moves to the Pyramid of King Khafre (still recognizable by its remaining limestone casing stones near the summit), and the Pyramid of King Menkaure. A stop at the panoramic viewpoint gives you the classic sight of all three pyramids lined up against the desert horizon, followed by a visit to the Valley Temple of King Khafre, where ancient purification and mummification rituals took place before royal burials.

The route then heads to Saqqara, one of Egypt's largest archaeological sites and an open-air museum in itself. Here you explore the Step Pyramid of King Djoser, the first pyramid ever built in ancient Egypt and a turning point in architectural history. The guide takes you through the Pyramid of Unas, which contains the earliest known Pyramid Texts carved on its interior walls, and the Pyramid of Teti, whose texts were believed to help the king in his journey to the afterlife. The Tomb of Kagemni rounds out the Saqqara stop: one of the finest tombs on the site, with well-preserved scenes of daily life in ancient Egypt.

Your final destination is Memphis, the first capital of ancient Egypt, established around 3200 BC when King Menes unified Upper and Lower Egypt. Now an open-air museum, Memphis holds the colossal statue of Ramses II, one of the largest statues ever discovered in Egypt, and the Alabaster Sphinx, one of the largest sphinx statues outside the Giza Plateau. The Egyptologist introduces you to the most important monuments and explains the historical significance of this ancient city before you are transferred back to your hotel in the private air-conditioned vehicle.
