The experience

Your driver picks you up from your hotel in a private air-conditioned car and takes you first to Giza, where you'll see the three major pyramids (Khufu, Khafre and Menkaure) from a panoramic viewpoint that frames all nine pyramids of the plateau against the desert. Your Egyptologist guide walks you through the Great Pyramid of Khufu, the only surviving wonder of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, then to the Sphinx and its valley temple. The guide explains the meaning of what you're seeing instead of moving you through on a schedule.

From Giza, the car takes you south to Saqqara, about 30 km away, where the Step Pyramid of Djoser stands as the world's oldest large-scale stone monument, built in the 27th century BC. You'll walk through the necropolis and see the art and carvings in the tombs of the nobles, with your guide translating the scenes. The final stop is Memphis, Egypt's first capital, where you'll see the Colossus of Ramses II at the Mit Rahina Museum before returning to your hotel. Lunch at a quality restaurant is included, and bottled water is provided throughout the day.

Do I have to pay extra for entrance to the pyramids?
