Giza Pyramids, Sakkara & Memphis: Private Day Tour with Lunch
Walk between Giza’s pyramids, touch old stones in Sakkara, meet Memphis statues
You’ll walk right up to the Pyramids of Giza with your guide, touch ancient stones in Sakkara’s Step Pyramid complex, share lunch at a local spot (the bread is unforgettable), and wander through Memphis among statues older than most countries. You might leave with sand in your shoes—and probably something bigger lingering in your mind.

The Experience
I’ll never forget the way our guide, Hossam, greeted us outside the Cairo hotel—he handed me a bottle of cold water before I even realized how thirsty I was. He joked about the Cairo traffic (“It’s like a video game!”) as we bumped along toward the Giza Pyramids. The city faded fast and suddenly there they were—those shapes I’d seen in books since I was a kid. The air smelled dusty but not unpleasant, just old somehow. We stood there for a minute just looking at the Great Pyramid of Giza while Hossam told us about Khufu and his lost boat (which apparently isn’t so lost anymore). I tried to imagine building something like that with just hands and stone blocks—impossible.
Walking up close to the Sphinx was surreal. Its face is battered but still weirdly expressive—Hossam said some people think it looks like Khafre himself. There were school kids nearby practicing English greetings on us (“Welcome to Egypt!”) and one little girl handed me a tiny pink flower she’d picked from somewhere. I still have it pressed in my notebook. After that we drove out to Sakkara, which felt emptier than Giza but maybe even more mysterious. The Step Pyramid looked rougher around the edges but you could see how it all started here—the first try at forever, or something like that.
Lunch came just when we needed it—a simple Egyptian meal at a small place near Sakkara (I can’t remember the name). Flatbread warm from the oven, tahini that tasted nutty and sharp at once, grilled chicken with spices I couldn’t quite place. My hands still smelled faintly of cumin after we left. Memphis was last—quiet compared to everywhere else. The statue of Ramses II lying on its back is huge; you stand by his feet and feel very small. There’s an alabaster sphinx too but honestly by then my brain was full of old gods and dust and sunlight bouncing off limestone.
