The experience

The first stop is Giza, where you stand in front of the only remaining wonder of the ancient world. You'll see the Great Pyramid, the Pyramid of Khafre, and the Pyramid of Menkaure arranged across the plateau, then move up to the panorama point, the highest vantage on the site, where all three align in a single frame and the light hits differently depending on the hour. A 15-minute camel ride circles the base of the pyramids, which sounds like a photo op until you're actually on it and the scale of the stone becomes something your body understands.

After Giza, the tour moves to the Sphinx and the Temple of Mummification, then south to Saqqara, where the Step Pyramid of Zoser sits: the world's oldest major stone structure, built in the 3rd Dynasty. Seeing it after Giza shifts how you think about Egyptian architecture. This is where the development happened, where the idea of stacking stone into the sky was still being worked out. Lunch is included somewhere in the middle of the day, and the guide will know the timing. Then comes Dahshur, about 40 kilometers south of Cairo, where the Red Pyramid and Bent Pyramid of King Snefru stand in a less crowded necropolis.
