The experience

The day starts with hotel pickup and heads straight to the Giza plateau, where you spend 2.5 hours at the Great Pyramid of Cheops, the Pyramid of Khafre and the Pyramid of Mykerinos. You also visit the Valley Temple, where priests mummified the pharaohs, and stand in front of the Great Sphinx: the limestone guardian with a lion's body and the head of King Khafre that has watched over the funeral complex for 4,500 years.

From Giza, the tour moves southwest to Saqqara, 27 kilometers away, where you spend 2 hours at the Step Pyramid built for King Zoser. This structure marks a turning point in pyramid design, the moment architects moved from the simple mastaba tombs to the stepped form that led to the smooth pyramids of Giza. You also walk through the mastaba of Mereruka, the largest non-royal tomb at Saqqara, with 33 rooms carved into the stone.

The final stop is Memphis, the ancient capital dating back to 3100 BC, where you see the colossal statue of Ramses II and the great Alabaster Sphinx. You have an hour there and free time for shopping before the return drive. Throughout the day, your guide is a qualified Egyptologist who speaks your language, and the car is air-conditioned with bottled water and soft drinks provided.
