The experience

Six to eight hours takes you through three of Egypt's most significant ancient sites without arranging transport or entry yourself. Your guide meets you at the hotel and drives you to Giza Plateau, where you stand in front of the three pyramids of Kings Cheops, Chephren and Menkaure, each one a massive stone structure built thousands of years apart. The Great Sphinx (a half-lion, half-human rock-cut statue) guards them. Your guide explains what each pyramid was built for and why the Great Pyramid of Cheops remains the only wonder of the original seven that has not been destroyed.

From Giza you move to Saqqara, where King Zoser's step pyramid rises in a series of stone platforms: the first pyramid ever built in Egypt and the first large rock-cut structure in human history. The complex shows how pyramid design evolved from the flat mastabas that came before it. Then you head to Memphis, which served as Egypt's capital until around 2,200 BC and was a center for worship of Ptah, the god of creation. You walk among temples and monuments built in his honor, and see the Colossus of Ramses II, a colossal limestone statue lying on its side.

The tour includes bottled water and an air-conditioned private vehicle for the whole day. If you choose the all-inclusive option, lunch (authentic Egyptian dishes like koshary or falafel), is included, along with a 20-minute camel ride. Your guide speaks English or Arabic. Pickup and drop-off from your hotel in Giza, Downtown Cairo, Zamalek or Dokki are included. If your hotel is in the airport area, Nasr City, New Cairo or 6th October, there is an additional charge per person.
