The experience

Saqqara comes first to show how Egyptian pyramid design evolved. The Step Pyramid Complex of King Djoser, built 4,700 years ago, was the first Egyptian pyramid ever constructed. You'll also see the 5th Dynasty Pyramid of King Unas, inscribed with hieroglyphics inside, and tombs decorated with scenes of daily life and funeral rites dating back 4,500 years. A ten-minute drive takes you to Memphis, an open-air museum where you walk among the ruins of the Temple of Ptah, the colossal statue of King Ramses II, and the Sphinx of the New Kingdom, mostly representing the female pharaoh Queen Hatshepsut.

After lunch at a local restaurant (vegan and vegetarian options available), you head to Giza to see the Great Pyramid of Khufu and the Pyramid of Chephren. The tour stops at the Western Side Panorama, the vantage point where all three pyramids appear together in a single frame, and this is where your 30-minute camel ride begins. From there you visit the Valley Temple, an impressive limestone and red granite structure near the Great Sphinx, before the drive back to your hotel.

Your Egyptologist guide speaks English, Spanish, German or Arabic and handles all logistics: hotel pickup and drop-off, modern air-conditioned vehicle, lunch and one drink with a bottle of water are included.
