The experience

Your guide and air-conditioned car meet you at your Cairo or Giza hotel to start at the Giza Pyramids, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The afternoon splits between two older sites. Memphis, the ancient capital 20 km south of Giza, sits in ruins near the modern town of Mit Rahina. You'll see the Sphinx of Memphis and other remains of the city that ruled Egypt's earliest dynasties. Saqqara, the necropolis that served Memphis, holds the Step Pyramid of Djoser: a 6-tier stone structure built in the 27th century BC and the earliest colossal stone building in Egypt. The Pyramid of Teti and other royal tombs fill the burial ground. Lunch is included, and your guide handles entry to each site so you move without stops to buy tickets or navigate crowds.

The car returns you to your hotel by evening. The tour runs eight hours total and suits all fitness levels, though the camel ride and walking between sites means some time on your feet in the heat.
