The Experience

The day starts with hotel pickup and heads straight to the pyramids. Your private Egyptologist guide walks you through the scale of the Great Pyramid of Khufu (limestone blocks weighing over 30 tonnes stacked without mortar), and you'll spend time on the ground next to it, noticing details a photo cannot hold. From there you move to the Great Sphinx, the largest statue on the plateau, with a lion's body and a pharaoh's head carved from bedrock.

Camel riding comes next, a 30-minute stretch where Bedouin handlers lead you across the sand dunes to two panoramic viewpoints. The first you'll reach by car. The second, the better one, you'll approach by camel. Both give you sightlines across the plateau that ground-level walking cannot match, and the vantage is why photographers favor this part of the day.

The ATV section takes the final hour. You'll drive the four-wheeler yourself across the Giza plateau, covering terrain and angles the earlier walking and camel sections leave out. The ride stays within the protected zone next to the pyramids, so you're moving through the same desert but from a different speed and sight line. Bottled water comes with you throughout. The guide speaks English and several other languages.
