The experience
The Giza Plateau sits just outside Cairo and holds four monuments built over 4,500 years ago: the Great Pyramid of Khufu (the only surviving Wonder of the Ancient World), the Pyramid of Khafre with its original limestone casing still visible near the top, the Pyramid of Menkaure, and the Great Sphinx. A 73-meter limestone statue with a lion's body and pharaoh's head. Your guide is a professional Egyptologist who speaks English or Spanish and travels with you in an air-conditioned vehicle from your hotel.
Entry into one of the pyramids is included, so you walk inside the stone chambers instead of viewing them from outside. After the pyramids, you ride a camel across the desert plateau: a choice between camel, horse carriage or horse at the panoramic viewpoint where all three pyramids line up in a single frame. The Great Sphinx stands nearby, and from this angle you can see Cairo's skyline in the distance.
Egyptian lunch happens at a local restaurant partway through the tour. Hotel pickup and drop-off bookend the day, and there are no hidden costs. You choose your package at checkout: the basic option includes the guide and vehicle. You can add entry fees, lunch and a professional photographer to capture the moments, or book the all-inclusive VIP option with everything included.
