The experience
The tour starts before sunrise so you can ride a camel near the pyramids while the light is still soft and the site is quieter than midday. After roughly an hour on camelback, the guide leads you through the Giza Pyramids complex, beginning with a briefing on how Egyptian civilization developed and the theories behind pyramid construction. You'll see the Pyramid of Khefren and learn how it differs from the Great Pyramid of Khufu, then move to the Great Pyramid itself (one of the seven wonders of the world), where the guide shares what ancient Egyptians achieved and the questions archaeologists still pursue.
The Giza Plateau is the standout stop: a vantage point where all three pyramids fit into a single frame, and the place where most travelers spend time with their cameras. From there, the guide takes you to the Sphinx, a limestone statue carved from one stone with a human face and lion's body, and walks you through the mysteries that have puzzled people for centuries. Throughout the morning, you'll hear stories and historical facts without the strain of a headphone tour. The guide speaks English or Spanish (other languages available for an extra fee), and travels with you in a clean, air-conditioned vehicle.
Breakfast and the camel ride are included in the full package. If you choose the guide-only option, you can add either one separately at the Giza Plateau. Entry to the pyramid grounds is included, but tickets to go inside any of the pyramids themselves are sold separately at the site and arranged with your guide. The whole tour runs five to six hours from pickup to dropoff at your Cairo or Giza hotel.
