The Experience
The day starts at the Giza Pyramids, where you'll walk around the Great Pyramid, the Pyramid of Khafre and the Pyramid of Menkaure with a guide who explains the 4,500-year history carved into the stone. From there you move to the Great Sphinx (the limestone creature with a human head and a lion's body), and learn what it meant to the people who built it. Then comes the Egyptian Museum, home to over 100,000 pieces: the guide walks you through the collection and stops at the Tutankhamun treasures and the sun boats, the objects that anchor the whole story of ancient Egypt.
After the museum, you head to the Cairo Citadel, a medieval Islamic fortress that sits above the city. Inside it stands the Alabaster Mosque. The guide covers both the building and the history that shaped it. The last stop is Khan Al-Khalili Bazaar, the market where Cairenes actually shop, not a tourist version of one. You browse the stalls for traditional Egyptian souvenirs, textiles and handicrafts, and you move at your own pace through the crowd and the noise.
The tour runs eight hours and includes all entrance fees, transport in an air-conditioned vehicle with a driver, lunch, a bottle of water and taxes. Because it's private, you can ask the guide to linger at a stop or skip one altogether if something else interests you more. The operator accommodates dietary needs (vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free) if you mention them when you book.
