The Experience

The first thing that hit me was the color of the sky—sort of pale gold against the stone when we pulled up to the Giza Pyramids. Our guide, Hossam, greeted us outside the car with this easy smile. He handed me a bottle of water and pointed out how the city noise just sort of faded as we walked closer to those massive blocks. I remember my shoes crunching over sand and tiny stones. There’s something about seeing those shapes in real life—my brain kept trying to make sense of how old they actually are.
