The experience

The day starts with pickup from your Cairo or Giza hotel and a drive to the Giza Plateau, where you stand in front of the three Pyramids of Khufu, Khafre and Menkaura. You stop for a panoramic photo with all three as your backdrop, and the option to enter one of them (at additional cost) if you want to walk inside. The guide is a qualified Egyptologist who speaks English and travels with the group in an air-conditioned minivan.

From the plateau, the tour moves to the Egyptian Museum to see the artifacts ancient Egyptians left behind, including the Tutankhamun treasures. The mummies room is available as an add-on if you choose it. After the museum, you head to Khan El Khalili Bazaar in the old city, where you walk through the streets and alleys of the Alaadin-era marketplace: the spices, the merchants, the glittering goods filling the narrow passages. You can stop at El Fishawi cafe, one of the oldest in the area, which has been open for more than 200 years, and order mint tea.

The full route takes seven hours from pickup to drop-off. Bottled water is provided throughout. You'll need moderate fitness for the walking at the plateau, through the museum and around the bazaar, but the pace is set by the group and the guide.
