You hike uphill to Damajagua Falls, then swim and slide down through a series of limestone pools; afterward you zip line three certified courses with no active braking required; lunch and all equipment are included, and the timing is planned so you return to your cruise ship with time to spare.
The boat leaves the cruise port heading west toward Damajagua Falls on the North Coast. Twenty to thirty minutes uphill through limestone terrain, and you're standing at the top of a series of pools carved into the rock—the kind of place that doesn't photograph the way it looks in person. Your guide briefs the group on what's coming: you'll swim, jump, and slide your way back down through the water, moving from one pool to the next.
After that, it's the zip lines. Three of them, certified to ACCT standards, strung across the canopy. The safety briefing is thorough—trained staff walk you through everything—and here's the thing that sets this apart from other zip line parks: you're not doing any active braking yourself. No gloves, no stopping mechanism you have to operate. You clip in, push off, and the line does the work. No experience required, which matters because the group is always mixed—some people have done this before, some haven't. The adrenaline hits the same either way.
Lunch happens after, Dominican food, and they keep vegetarian options on hand. Bottled water throughout, all equipment provided. The whole excursion is built around cruise ship timing, so you're back at the port with hours to spare before departure. Wear closed-toe shoes that can get wet—runners work, or rent rubber shoes for two dollars. Bring a t-shirt and shorts that you don't mind soaking, sunscreen, bug spray, and a towel. Lockers are available if you need to stash anything, also a couple of dollars.
This is a moderate-to-strong physical day. The hike isn't technical, but it's uphill and the terrain is uneven. You need to be a confident swimmer—the pools move, and you're dropping into them, not floating gently. The weight limit for zip lines is 260 pounds. If you've got spinal issues, cardiovascular concerns, or you're pregnant, this one isn't the fit. Everyone else who can handle a solid morning of activity and water will find the time moves fast.
