The Experience

The speedboat is already loading when you arrive at Royal Phuket Marina — staff hand you a life jacket, point you toward the bow, and within minutes you're pulling away from the pier with maybe a dozen other travelers. The boat cuts through the Andaman Sea toward Bamboo Island first, where the water is so clear you can see the reef before you jump in. Snorkeling here feels less crowded than the bigger stops, and the coral and fish are genuinely there — not a marketing promise. You get maybe an hour to swim, float, or just sit on the white sand and let your shoulders dry.

After Bamboo Island, the boat heads to Phi Phi Don for a buffet lunch at a restaurant right on the island — nothing fancy, but the food is hot and there's enough of it. Then comes Monkey Beach, where the monkeys actually show up, though they're more interested in stealing snacks than posing for photos. The real draw is Pileh Bay, where the snorkeling is the best of the day; the reef here is healthier and the fish more abundant. By the time you reach Maya Bay — the beach from "The Beach" — you've already been in the water twice and seen more of the islands than most day-trippers manage. The bay itself is photogenic from the boat, and you'll have time to swim and take pictures before heading back to Phuket around late afternoon.

The whole day runs about eight hours including pickup and drop-off from your hotel. Your guide speaks English and handles the logistics, so you're not figuring out tides, boat schedules, or which reef is worth the swim. Lunch and a couple of small refreshments are built in, which saves you from hunting for food between stops.
