The experience

The day starts with a hotel pickup in an air-conditioned minivan and a drive to Royal Phuket Marina, where you board a speedboat for the run to Phi Phi Leh. The boat cuts across open water toward limestone cliffs that rise straight from the sea, and the first stop is Maya Bay: the cove from the film "The Beach," now recognizable by its shape alone. From there the speedboat heads to Pileh Lagoon, a sheltered basin ringed by rock walls where the water sits so still it looks like a swimming pool. You can swim or paddleboard here before moving on.

The main snorkeling happens at Viking Cave and along a vibrant coral reef nearby. Viking Cave itself is a sea cliff with wall paintings and a history of bird-nest harvesting. The snorkeling takes you into the water below it, where the reef holds schools of tropical fish and the coral formations are dense enough to hold your attention for the full time in the water. You'll have snorkeling fins and a full set of gear, and an English-speaking guide stays with the group. A stop at Monkey Beach follows (a short beach walk in a natural setting with palms and sand) before the boat returns to Royal Phuket Marina.

Lunch is a buffet with desserts at a beachside restaurant on Ton Sai Bay, served with a view across Phi Phi Don. The return journey is the reverse: minivan from the marina back to your Phuket hotel. The tour price includes travel insurance, and national park fees (400 THB per adult, 200 THB per child) are paid directly to the guide when you check in. This applies only if you choose hotel pickup. If you meet the boat at the marina instead, you arrange those fees separately.
