The experience

Your driver picks you up at the hotel and handles the route through Ubud's scattered attractions, so you don't navigate between them yourself. The day starts at the Sacred Monkey Forest, where around 700 Balinese long-tailed macaques live across 12.5 hectares of forest. Three temples sit inside the forest, guarded by the monkeys in their own rhythm. From there you move to Tegalalang Rice Terraces, the terraced paddies that define Ubud's landscape: the subak system of traditional irrigation has shaped these fields since the eighth century.

Mid-morning takes you to a Balinese coffee plantation where you see how robusta coffee, cacao, durian, and other tropical crops grow side by side. The plantation shows the traditional method of making Balinese coffee and serves it fresh with a view down the river valley. If you're curious about Luwak coffee (the expensive variety made from civet cat digestion), you'll see the animals here and understand why it costs what it does. Then comes Tirta Empul Temple, built around holy springs that Balinese Hindus believe purify the spirit. The final stop is Tegenungan Waterfall, a short walk from the parking area if you want to get closer, or viewable from the top if you'd rather stay dry.

Choose the all-inclusive option if you want entry fees and parking handled upfront. Pick the tickets-on-your-own version if you'd rather pay at each stop. Either way, the driver and air-conditioned vehicle stay the same. Bring water and wear shoes that can handle wet stone at the waterfall and temple. The 10-hour day is full but not rushed. Your driver is there to move you between sites, not to hurry you through them.
