The Experience
Your day starts with hotel pickup in an air-conditioned vehicle and heads first to the art villages—Celuk and others—where you can stop to watch silversmiths, woodcarvers, or painters at work, or skip them entirely if the itinerary needs to move. From there you visit Batuan Temple, a 10th-century site carved with guardian statues and intricate stone work, where you'll see daily offerings and get a sense of how the temple still functions as a place of worship, not just a ruin.
Tegenungan Waterfall comes next, surrounded by jungle thick enough that the spray and mist stay cool even in midday heat. The trails around it let you walk closer or stay back for photos—there's no fixed time, so you move at your own pace. Then you drive to Tegalalang Rice Terrace, where the paddies drop away in layers down the hillside. Most people walk the pathways between the terraces; if you want the jungle swing (a rope swing that hangs over the valley), you can buy a ticket on site for around 200,000 IDR per person.
The Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary is the stop most people remember. Hundreds of long-tailed macaques live in the reserve alongside temple ruins and shaded pathways. They're used to visitors but still wild—the guide will tell you how to move around them safely. After that, you get a full hour free in Ubud's center. Most people head to the Ubud Palace to see the royal family's former residence and its carved pavilions, or to the Art Market to buy textiles and crafts, or to Saraswati Temple. Your driver waits and then takes you back to your hotel.

What exactly is the Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary?
The Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary is a protected reserve and temple complex in Ubud where hundreds of long-tailed Balinese macaques live in their natural habitat. You walk shaded pathways through the forest, see ancient temple ruins, and watch the monkeys up close—they're accustomed to visitors but still wild, so the guide explains how to move safely around them.
Can I skip any of the stops on this tour?
Yes. The tour follows the standard itinerary—art villages, Batuan Temple, Tegenungan Waterfall, Tegalalang Rice Terrace, Monkey Forest, and an hour free in Ubud center—but you can substitute other attractions within the Ubud area if something else interests you more. Talk to your driver-guide about changes before the day starts.
Is lunch included in this tour?
Lunch is not included in the tour price, but it's available for purchase on site at any of the stops. Your driver can recommend places to eat, and you have flexibility to stop where you'd like during the day.
What's included in the entry fees option?
When you choose the option with entrance fees included, your price covers entry to the Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary, Batuan Temple, Tegenungan Waterfall, and Tegalalang Rice Terrace. The jungle swing at Tegalalang is separate and costs around 200,000 IDR if you want to try it.
How long does the tour actually take?
The tour runs nine hours total from hotel pickup to drop-off. That includes driving time between stops, time at each site, and a full hour of free time in Ubud's center at the end. The exact timing shifts depending on traffic and how long you spend at each place.
Do I need to wear anything special at the temples?
A traditional sarong is provided for temple entry. You'll wear it at Batuan Temple and the Monkey Forest (which has a temple complex inside it). The driver carries the sarongs and will help you put one on before you enter.
