The experience

The day starts with pickup from your hotel and a drive to one of three art villages in the Ubud region. Celuk specializes in gold and silver jewelry work, Mas is known for intricate wood sculptures and carvings, and Batuan focuses on traditional painting. You discuss with your driver-guide which one suits you. From there, the route moves to Tegenungan Waterfall, a cascade that drops over black stone cliffs in a lush jungle setting, with a panorama of green valley surrounding it.

Next is Goa Gajah, the Elephant Cave Temple, an 11th-century site with an ancient cave, meditation chambers, bathing pools, fountains, and stone-cut stupas spread across a large complex. The tour then takes you to Tegalalang Rice Terrace, a UNESCO World Heritage Site where emerald-green rice paddies cascade down a valley in stepped terraces. After that comes Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary, a natural habitat where over 1,000 Balinese long-tailed monkeys roam freely. You'll see them in their own surroundings rather than in captivity.

The final stop is an hour of free time at Ubud Center, where you explore on your own. The area includes Ubud Traditional Art Market for crafts and souvenirs, Ubud Palace (Puri Saren), an important 1800s landmark, and Saraswati Temple, a classical Balinese temple with lotus ponds. Your driver-guide remains available if you need help navigating. The return journey takes you back to your hotel with all entry fees, transport, and parking already covered.
