The Experience

Your Egyptologist picks you up from your hotel and drives you to the Great Pyramid of Khufu, the only surviving wonder of the seven ancient wonders. You'll walk around the structure, touch its limestone blocks, and hear how ancient Egyptians built it using techniques scholars are still studying. The pyramid's chambers are designed to absorb and store energy in ways that continue to intrigue researchers. The guide explains the engineering and the history of the pharaoh it was built to entomb.

After the pyramid, you drive to the panoramic viewpoint for photographs of all three pyramids together, then head into the desert for a half-hour camel ride with Bedouin guides who know how to position you for the best shots. The desert light and the scale of the structures from that vantage point are what make the photos from this part of the day stand out. You'll then drive to the Great Sphinx, the limestone statue with a lion's body and the pharaoh Chefren's head, built as a guardian for his tomb and a symbol of power.
