You're picked up at Alexandria port and driven to Cairo by air-conditioned minibus, arriving at the Giza Plateau to spend the morning and early afternoon among the pyramids. The Great Pyramid of Khufu stands as one of the Seven Wonders of the ancient world. Beside it rise the Pyramid of Khafre and the smaller Pyramid of Menkaure. The Great Sphinx (the limestone guardian with a lion's body and the head of King Khafre) overlooks the complex. Your guide walks you through the site and explains the history of each structure, from what is known of Khufu through inscriptions in his necropolis to the statues of Khafre recovered from his valley temple.

After a panoramic stop for photos across the Giza Plateau and the Nile, you drive downtown to the Egyptian Museum. There you encounter an astonishing collection of pharaonic treasures, centered on the artifacts of King Tutankhamun: the only completely preserved portrait of an ancient king, along with statues, reliefs and objects from his tomb. Lunch at a local restaurant is included, as is a bottle of water for the day.

The tour runs about ten hours from port departure to return.
