The experience

The boat leaves Nopparat Thara Pier at 9am after pickups from Krabi Town and Ao Nang start at 7:45am, and the day moves through six stops without backtracking. You're in the water at Bamboo Island first, where the sand is genuinely white and shallow enough to walk out far without dropping off, then the boat takes you to Viking Cave for photos of the limestone walls and the bird's-nest harvesting that happens there. By mid-morning you're at Pileh Lagoon, where the cliffs close in and the water sits so still it looks printed.

Snorkeling happens at Lohsamah Bay with the coral and small fish, and then the boat reaches Maya Beach (the actual location from the 1999 film), where you get time to photograph it from the water or the boat (the beach itself closes annually from August 1 to September 30 for environmental restoration, so you won't walk on it during those months). Lunch is buffet-style at a restaurant on Phi Phi Don Island, where you eat and rest before the final swim and snorkel at Monkey Bay. The whole Krabi day trip runs seven hours door-to-door, and the boat carries a guide, life jackets, snorkel masks and a first aid kit. Hotel pickup is free from Krabi Town and Ao Nang. If you're staying in Klong Muang or Tub Kaek, there's a 100-baht charge per person paid to the driver.
