At low tide, three islands connect by a white sand dune you can walk across.

A full-day longtail boat tour from Krabi explores the Separated Sea and four islands in the Andaman, with snorkeling at Chicken Island, lunch on Poda Island, and a visit to Pranang Cave. The route reveals unusual natural features (a disappearing sandbank, a chicken-head rock formation, and underwater tunnels) depending on tide and season. Hotel pickup and a Thai lunch are included.

The experience

The tour departs from Nopparatthara pier at 9:30am after hotel pickup, and the day hinges on one tidal event: when the sea recedes, a white sand dune emerges and connects Chicken Island to two neighboring islands. You walk across it at the lowest tide of the day. The rest of the morning and afternoon fills with snorkeling in the coral reefs around Chicken Island, where the marine life is abundant, and stops at Poda Island for a buffet lunch and time to swim or rest by the water. Pranang Cave, a limestone cavern with a princess spirit house worshiped by locals, rounds out the route. The beach there is also known for rock climbing.

The boat is a traditional wooden longtail, and the route passes through underwater tunnels you can swim through (conditions and season permitting) and past a rock formation shaped like a chicken's head. Snorkeling gear, a life jacket and a guide who speaks English are provided. The tour runs eight hours total, with return to your hotel by 4pm. Weather and sea conditions can alter the itinerary, and the operator asks patience for pickup delays along the route.
