The experience

The boat leaves Ao Nang Pier in the early afternoon and makes four main snorkeling stops. Tup Island is known for its sandbanks where you swim and relax in shallow water. Chicken Island and Taming Island are the reef sites where you put on the mask and fins to see fish and coral. Phranang Cave sits on a white sand beach and holds a shrine to a princess spirit. You swim there and walk the sand, but the cave itself is the landmark. The whole route stays in the middle of the Andaman Sea, so the water is calm most days.

Railay Beach is where the day turns. You arrive as the sun drops, eat a buffet dinner on the sand, and watch the light go. After dinner, the boat makes one more stop at Khea Reux Bin to see bioluminescent plankton in the dark water: the organisms glow when they move, so you can swim and watch the water light up around you. The return to Ao Nang Pier and your hotel happens around 8 p.m.

The guide speaks English, Russian or Simplified Chinese and travels with the group the whole day. Hotel pickup starts at 11:30 a.m. and runs until 1:30 p.m., so the timing depends on where you stay. National park fees are not included in the price. You pay 200 Thai baht per person at the pier before departure. The tour runs eight hours total, and the itinerary can shift if weather or sea conditions change. The operator will contact you if that happens and offer a date change or full refund.
