The experience

The harness clicks tight, your instructor checks the lines one more time, and then you're running downhill into the wind. Within seconds the ground drops away (not gradually, but all at once), and you're suspended in thermal currents between 700 and 1,000 meters above Tenerife South. The flight lasts 25 to 30 minutes depending on conditions, and for most of it you're just sitting there, strapped in, watching Barranco del Infierno rise up on one side and the coast flatten out below. Your instructor handles the glide. You handle the view.

The takeoff point depends on the weather (either 700 meters or 1,000 meters), so the company picks the safer, better-flying altitude on the day you go.
