Acrobatic tandem paragliding above south Tenerife pairs you with a pilot for a 2-hour flight that starts with a run from an 800–1000m takeoff, climbs through thermals, and executes aerobatic manoeuvres before landing. Pickup from Costa Adeje, all equipment, helmet and GoPro are included. Minimum age 14. Maximum weight 100kg.

The experience

What makes this different from standard paragliding is the manoeuvres themselves. After your pilot finds and climbs the thermals to gain altitude, you head toward the landing zone where the aerobatic part begins: spins, carves, and the G forces that come with them. A short run gets you airborne from the hillside. Once you're floating, your pilot keeps you oriented and comfortable in the harness while explaining how the glider responds. The commentary points out landmarks and how the flight works, so you're not just experiencing it blind.

The whole experience runs about 2 hours from pickup. An air-conditioned Mercedes Vito collects you from anywhere in Costa Adeje and takes you up to the takeoff point. At the top, you get fitted with a harness, helmet and a GoPro that records the flight, so you have footage of the manoeuvres and the landing. Liability insurance is included. If conditions allow, you'll touch down on the soft sand of La Caleta beach, where the Atlantic waves are audible as you land on your feet.

Airsports Tenerife has been flying since 1988, so the pilots know the island's weather patterns and thermal activity. The guides speak English, Spanish, Italian, German and several other languages. You need at least moderate fitness and should be 14 or older. The weight limit is 100kg. Bring sports shoes and sunglasses, though the operator has extras available to borrow if you need them.
