The experience

You get picked up from your hotel and driven to the takeoff point high in Adeje's mountains. Once there, your pilot walks you through the equipment check and the launch sequence. It's straightforward, and they've done this hundreds of times. When you're ready, you follow their count: one, two, three, run. The wing catches air and you're off the ground. The first few seconds are the rush. After that, you settle into the harness and the noise of the takeoff fades into something quieter.

In the air, the flight runs 20 to 40 minutes depending on what you choose. If you want the adrenaline hit, your pilot will perform aerobatic maneuvers: barrel rolls, spirals, the moves that make your stomach flip and your heart race. If you'd rather climb higher and glide longer to see the hidden places below, that's the call you make. Either way, you're strapped in safely. The pilot is in control of the wing and your job is to sit back and feel it. The landing is simple: follow instructions, touch down, and you're done.

The whole experience (pickup, drive, gearing up, flight, landing, and download time) takes about two hours. You'll get your photos and videos to download straight to your phone afterward, though those are a separate purchase. The operator provides windstopper jackets if it's cool up there, and the vehicle is air-conditioned on the way up and down. Insurance is included, as is all the homologated equipment for both you and the pilot.
