The experience

The boat is yours alone from around 10:00 to 17:30, though you can arrange different hours to suit your schedule. Boarding happens in Salerno or at any point along the coast you choose (Vietri sul Mare, Cetara, Maiori, Minori, Amalfi, Praiano or Positano), so you can start from wherever you're staying. The skipper navigates the full run of villages, passing under the cliffs and stopping at the spots locals know: Pandora Cave, the Marmorata waterfall, the Arch of Love, the Fjord of Furore, and the small blue cave near Praiano.

Snorkeling gear is on board, and you'll have chances to drop anchor in clear water and swim. The aperitif (prosecco, fresh fruit, snacks and a tasting of buffalo mozzarella from Campania) comes included, along with water. If you want a proper meal, the boat can stop at restaurants along the coast that have no road access. You arrange and pay for lunch separately. The skipper speaks English or Italian.

The Capri option adds a first stop at Li Galli, a private island and marine reserve with rich underwater life, then circles the whole of Capri. You'll pass the Faraglioni rock formations and see most of the island's caves. The famous Blue Cave has its own separate ticket and a queue, so it's not included here. More stops for swimming in the clearest water on the coast. This extension costs an additional €300.

Half-day tours run shorter and skip the aperitif service. Infants can travel in a pram or stroller, and small children sit on an adult's lap. The boat suits all fitness levels. Public transport is nearby if you need it to reach the boarding point.
