The Experience

We were already halfway down the coast from Accra when our driver, Kwame, pointed out a fishing boat bobbing off Elmina’s shore. The salt air stung my nose, so different from the city. When we reached Elmina Castle, I didn’t expect to feel so much just standing in those stone corridors. Our guide Ama spoke quietly as we stepped into the slave dungeons. Her words echoed against the walls. I tried to imagine what it was like back then but honestly, you can’t.
