The Experience

The day opens at Cape Coast Castle, where a guided tour walks you through the dungeons and cells where enslaved Africans were held, then moves through museum exhibits that document the transatlantic slave trade and its role in shaping world history. From there, the route continues to Elmina Castle, another significant slave fort, where you'll stand at the "Door of No Return"—the passage through which captives were forced onto ships—and take in views of the fishing village below from the castle's vantage points. After the castles, the tour shifts to Kakum National Park, where a knowledgeable guide leads a nature walk through the forest canopy.
