The experience
The tour starts at your accommodation and moves west along the coast. In Cannes, you walk the Croisette (the promenade that became the symbol of the city), and see the Palais des Festivals with its red carpet, home to the International Film Festival. From there, the route follows the coastal road to Antibes, where the old town opens onto an attractive seafront, historic buildings and narrow streets built around a traditional market.
The Provençal Market sits in the heart of Antibes and is the kind of place where you stop to watch vendors arrange produce, smell herbs hanging in bundles, and watch locals shop for dinner. It is not a tourist market dressed up for the camera. It is where the town buys food. You can wander through or pick up something to eat. The tour then climbs inland to St Paul de Vence, a medieval village perched on a hilltop where art galleries line the streets and the names on plaques (Prévert, Pagnol, Chagall, Picasso, Matisse) mark where artists and writers lived and worked. The whole outing runs four and a half hours from start to finish.
The vehicle holds up to eight people and includes air conditioning for the drive. Your guide is a professional driver who speaks your language and knows the region. Hotel pickup and drop-off are part of the booking, so you do not arrange transport separately. Food, drinks and entrance fees to any sites are not included, though you will have time to stop and eat in any of the three towns if you want to.
