The driver was already waiting when we came down—which meant we'd booked the right time, though honestly the itinerary looked ambitious on paper. Eight hours, four towns, and a minivan that seats eight people comfortably enough that you're not elbowing a stranger the whole way. The route runs from Nice westward along the coast, which sounds simple until you realize you're threading through some of the most expensive real estate on earth, stopping where most people only drive past. The Mercedes is air-conditioned, which matters more than you'd think when you're climbing medieval streets in Eze under the Mediterranean sun.

Eze comes first—a village so perched on a cliff that the cobbled streets feel almost vertical. The driver-guide knows the narrow passages and where to pause so you actually see the view instead of just walking through it. There's an optional stop at the Fragonard Perfume Factory, which is free to enter and surprisingly not a trap; the factory explains how scent gets made in this region, and you can buy something or not.
