The experience

Nice sits at the center of this route, and you start by driving up Castle Hill to see the bay and the old town spread below. From there, the guide takes you through Cimiez to the remains of the Roman settlement of Cemenelum, set among olive groves, then to the Russian Orthodox Cathedral, the largest outside Russia, before stopping at Cours Saleya flower market for free time to walk through the colors and stalls of old Nice. The market runs Tuesday to Sunday mornings. If you book outside those days, the guide will suggest an alternative stop.

Leaving Nice, you cross Mont Boron, where the road opens onto views of Villefranche's bay and Cap Ferrat. Then comes Eze, a medieval village built into a hilltop like an eagle's nest, where you have free time to climb to the summit and stand in the exotic garden at the top. Monaco is the final stop.
