The Experience

Your guide picks you up from your accommodation in Nice and drives you along the coast in a comfortable recent vehicle. Two photo stops come early—one overlooking Villefranche Bay with its colors and one framing Cap Ferrat's luxury villas rising like an island into the Mediterranean. These viewpoints set the scale of what you're moving through before you reach the medieval hilltop village of Eze, where narrow streets wind upward and an exotic garden sits at the summit (entry optional, €8). The Fragonard perfumery visit is built into the route but you can ask your guide to skip it and spend the time in the village instead.

Monaco comes next—the world's second-smallest territory and one of its richest. You walk the old town, see the Prince's Palace square and the cathedral where Prince Rainier married Princess Grace Kelly, then drive the Formula 1 Grand Prix circuit itself, the legendary track that hosts the race each year. Free time in Monte Carlo lets you stand in Casino Square, watch the luxury cars and yachts, and walk past the Hotel de Paris. The port holds yachts over 100 meters long, visible from the circuit's famous swimming pool viewpoint.

Cannes follows—the Beverly Hills of the French Riviera. You walk Boulevard la Croisette past the luxury boutiques and sandy beaches, then photograph the red carpet at the Palais des Festivals where actors and celebrities gather for the International Film Festival each year. On the way to Antibes you pass Juan-les-Pins and its pretty beaches. In Antibes itself, you walk the fortified ramparts of the old town with views of Cap d'Antibes to the west and the snowy Alps to the northeast, then browse the Provençal market in the old town (depending on market days). The final stop is Saint-Paul de Vence, a medieval village perched above the sea that has housed Chagall, Matisse and Picasso. Flower-filled streets lead past art galleries and shops before your guide returns you to Nice.
