The Experience

We were already winding along those cliff roads out of Nice before I realized how high up we’d climbed — you can actually smell the sea even when you can’t see it anymore. Our guide, Jean-Luc, pointed out these little terraced gardens clinging to the hillsides, and I tried to imagine what it’d be like waking up here every morning. When we stopped in Eze, the air felt cooler, almost sharp, and there was this faint whiff of rosemary everywhere. The village is tiny but somehow full of corners; I got lost for ten minutes just following a cat (no regrets).

The Fragonard perfumery tour was way more fun than I expected — not just sniffing bottles, but learning how they actually make perfume here in Provence. I tried guessing some of the scents (failed miserably), and our guide laughed when I mixed up jasmine with something else entirely. Still thinking about that view back toward Nice as we left, honestly.
