The experience
The day starts at your hotel in Belize City and moves through three distinct landscapes. You begin at Altun Ha, a major Maya ceremonial center with two principal plazas. The most significant artifact here is the Jade Head, carved to represent Kinich Ahua, the Maya Sun God and the largest jade object in Maya civilization. After the ruins, a nature walk through the jungle leads to the Xibalba cave system, where your guide explains the flora, fauna and geology as you approach the entrance.
Once at the cave, you board a tube tethered to others in your group and float through the underground river system. The guide continues sharing the cave's history and formation as you drift through. After exiting, an open-river tubing section follows on the same waterway. The zip-line portion comes next: six runs carry you through the canopy on harness and helmet, moving between platforms set into the jungle. Lunch and bottled water are provided throughout the day, and an air-conditioned vehicle handles all transport between sites.
The full day runs 8 hours from pickup to drop-off. Groups stay under 15 people, and children must be at least 40 inches tall to participate in cave tubing. A minimum of two people per booking is required. The guide speaks English or Spanish, and all zip-line equipment (harnesses, helmets and gloves) is supplied.
