The experience
The day starts with pickup from your hotel or port and a drive through the countryside toward the cave system. Along the way, your guide shares the history and culture of the region. Once you reach the trailhead, you hike through the rainforest for 20 minutes to the cave entrance, where tubes are already waiting. You won't carry them. They're staged at the mouth of the cave.
Inside the cave system, you float downriver on your tube past stalactites hanging from the ceiling, stalagmites rising from the floor, and tall columns of rock. A waterfall flows through the cave, and as you exit, you drift through the natural rainforest canopy still on the water. After the cave, the group heads to the Jeep Wranglers for mudding through the rainforest and across Maya Mountain. This part runs during the rainy season when the terrain is soft enough to drive. Lunch is served after the mudding, then you return to your starting point.
The tour runs 6 hours total and includes bottled water throughout, a helmet for the cave section, all national park fees, and local taxes. A professional local guide leads the group in either English or Spanish.
