The experience
The tour starts with hotel pickup in Khao Lak and heads to Phang Nga Bay, where a longtail boat becomes your transport through emerald-green water dotted with sheer limestone cliffs. James Bond Island (Koh Tapu) and Khao Phing Kan rise vertically from the bay: the same formations that appeared in the 1974 film The Man with the Golden Gun. You'll get close enough to photograph the rock towers and understand why they've drawn travelers for decades.
The day includes time paddling and canoeing around Talu Cave, swimming in designated areas, and a stop at Panyee Island, a fishing village of 360 families built entirely on stilts by Malay fishermen. The contrast between the uninhabited limestone landscape and this working community on the water is the heart of the experience. You'll also visit Wat Suwan Khuha (Monkey Cave), where statues and carvings sit alongside the primates that live there.
Lunch and drinking water are provided during the day. A live English-speaking guide accompanies the group throughout, and life jackets and safety equipment are supplied. Hotel drop-off returns you to Khao Lak at the end of the tour.
