The Experience

You get picked up from your Khao Lak hotel in an air-conditioned minivan and driven to Wow Andaman Pier, where the crew meets you with a light breakfast, coffee and tea. After you choose your snorkeling gear and the guide walks through safety and the day's plan, the boat heads out to the Similan Islands in under 90 minutes. The first stop is Koh Miang, where white sand meets the water and you might spot Nicobar flying foxes and pigeons on the island itself. Then you move to Koh Payu, which has rich hard and soft coral reefs, and Ko Bangu at the northern end of the chain — its eastern side holds Breakfast Bend, a reef arch loaded with sea fans and staghorn corals where varied fish life congregates.

Lunch happens on Koh Similan, the largest island, where you eat a picnic meal on a secluded beach. After eating, you can walk up to the Sailing Rock, a massive formation on the upper beach that resembles a ship's sail and offers views across the islands. The boat then heads back to Khao Lak, where you have a light meal at the pier before the driver takes you to your hotel. The whole day runs about eight and a half hours from pickup to drop-off. The Similan Islands National Park is only open to the public from mid-October through mid-May, so plan accordingly.

Everything is arranged: the guide speaks English, your snorkeling equipment and life jacket come with you, drinking water and soft drinks are on board, and the national park entrance fee is paid. Basic accident insurance is included. Children from age 4 can join. The tour can shift depending on weather and sea conditions, but the core stops and the snorkeling time stay the same.
