The experience
The day starts with hotel pickup in Phuket and a speedboat ride to Island No.8, where Sailing Rock (the sail-shaped landmark that names the Similan Islands) rises from the water. You can swim around it, climb to the viewpoint on top, or photograph it from the boat. The real work begins at Christmas Point on Koh Ba Ngu, where the reef holds ribbon eels, silver-tip sharks, and dense schools of tropical fish among vibrant coral formations.
Lunch breaks the rhythm at Princess Bay on Koh Miang, a white-sand beach where you eat and rest before the second snorkeling push. The afternoon takes you to Koh Ha and its "Garden of Eels" (a site named for the garden eels that live in the sand), and then to Koh Hok, where staghorn, boulder and brain corals fill the shallows. A professional guide in English and Thai leads the whole day, and all snorkeling equipment, fins and towels come with you. The full day runs 11 to 12 hours including the hotel transfers at each end.
Drinking water, soft drinks, seasonal fruits and all meals are included. The speedboat carries small groups, and the operator trains all staff in first aid and CPR. The Similan Islands National Park closes annually from May 16 to October 14 for conservation, so check the season before booking. Weather and sea conditions can shift the itinerary without notice.

Is this one for you?You snorkel at each site yourself with provided equipment and a guide in the water, so this suits anyone comfortable in the sea who wants hands-on reef time rather than watching from a boat. The shared speedboat and group format keeps the cost low and the social energy high. If you prefer privacy, look for a private charter instead.
