The experience
The speedboat departs Khao Lak in the morning and heads straight to Ko Phi Phi Le, where Maya Bay sits between limestone cliffs. You swim and snorkel in the bay's shallow water (the reefs here hold hundreds of tropical fish), then the boat moves to Pileh Lagoon, a narrow emerald inlet ringed by rock. After sightseeing stops at two more locations, you arrive at Phi Phi Don Island for lunch at a beachside restaurant and free time on the beach to snorkel or rest.
The afternoon takes you to Monkey Beach for a quick look, then to Khai Island, where the day opens up. You have free time to snorkel the reefs around the island, swim, or lie on the white sand. The boat carries life jackets, and a small refreshment is served at the pier before departure and again during the journey. The whole day runs about ten to eleven hours from pickup to drop-off.
Note that Maya Bay closes each year from August 1 to September 30 for environmental recovery. During those months you'll see the bay from the boat but won't step onto the beach. A national park fee of 400 baht per adult and 200 baht per child is paid on arrival, separate from the tour price. The tour requires a minimum of ten people to run. If it's cancelled, you'll be offered an alternative date, a different tour, or a full refund.
Is this one for you?You snorkel on your own at each stop with time to explore the reefs, so this suits anyone comfortable in the water and wanting to see the fish and coral themselves rather than watch from the boat. The fixed itinerary and shared group mean you're not setting the pace, but the stops (Maya Bay, Pileh Lagoon, Monkey Beach and Khai Island) are chosen to give you snorkeling, swimming and beach time all in one day.
