The experience

The morning starts at the Royal Thai Navy Third Fleet Turtle Nursery, a conservation center set up by the royal family to rebuild the turtle population around Khao Lak, the Similan Islands and the Surin Islands. After time at the center, you head to the boat and cruise through the coastal scenery (misty mountains, jungle, small islands and rocky reefs), where you'll often spot birds and fish jumping from the water. The boat is built for the route: it moves slowly enough to see what's around you, and the crew knows where to look.

The cruise ends at a long, quiet beach where you anchor for the afternoon. Lunch and fresh fruit are served on board or on the sand, and you have plenty of time to swim, wade or simply sit. The return to your hotel is timed so you're back by early afternoon, leaving the rest of your day open.
