The experience
The tour starts with hotel pickup from Krabi Town or Ao Nang, then heads to Phang-Nga Bay in a long-tail boat. The first stop is Suwan Khuha Temple, built inside a cave and known locally as Monkey Cave Temple: a site with historical and archaeological significance that draws both locals and visitors. From there, the boat moves through the bay's distinctive landscape: sheer limestone cliffs rise vertically out of the water, and you pass Khao Phing Kan (the islands that lean against each other in Thai) and explore Lod Cave with its giant stalactites.
James Bond Island (Koh Tapu in Thai, meaning "nail island") is the centerpiece. The 20-metre islet sits about 40 metres from Khao Phing Kan and became famous after starring in The Man with the Golden Gun. The entire surrounding area is limestone karst towers and emerald-green water. You also visit Thalu Island to see more caves and limestone cliffs, and Khao Khien and Khao Maju for additional sightseeing.
Lunch happens at a restaurant on Koh Panyee, a Muslim fishing village on the bay. The island has seafood restaurants, souvenir stalls, and a legendary football pitch that serves as a local attraction: a chance to see how people live on the water. The tour runs 8 to 9 hours total and includes a guide who speaks English, a life jacket, drinking water, fruit, and accident insurance. Hotel pickup is available from Krabi Town and Ao Nang. If you stay at Railay Beach, pickup is from Ao Nam Mao Pier (a 15-minute boat ride from Railay East).
