The experience

Hotel pickup runs between 7:20 and 8:00 am from Kamala, Patong, Kata, Karon, Rawai, Chalong or Phuket Town, followed by a briefing at the pier before departure. The speedboat takes you first to Yao Yai Island for swimming, then to Hong Island, where you paddle a canoe with a professional crew into the caves and lagoons that cut into the limestone. The water is the draw here: you're operating the paddle yourself, moving through spaces a larger boat cannot reach.

After canoeing, the speedboat continues to James Bond Island (Khao Ping Kan), the filming location from "The Man with the Golden Gun." You have time to walk the beach, photograph the rock formations and browse the small market. Lunch is a buffet at Koh Panyee, a Muslim fishing village built on stilts. The narrow walkways between houses are worth a wander after you eat. A stop at Panak Island offers a choice between exploring an ice cream cave or a mangrove cave, depending on the day's conditions.

The final swim is at Naka Island on a white sand beach before the speedboat returns you to your hotel around 5:30 pm. Tea, coffee, soft drinks and snacks are available throughout the day. National Park fees (300 THB for adults, 150 THB for children) are paid separately at departure.
